This time of year is usually an abundant one when you're a gardener. I'm just now starting to feel the effects of growing my veggies. Everything is a little delayed because of my over-watering problem. I have a love/hate relationship with the learning curve that comes with gardening. When I moved from pots to my big planters, I had no idea how much water they would actually hold and for how long! So... I nearly killed my garden by drowning it.
Luckily, a lot of things bounced back once I pulled back on watering. It's just all a little behind, and some things just never worked out. The being said, though, I'm starting to load up on some of my expected veggies.
Early Girl and Black Cherry tomatoes in various stages of ripeness.
My tomatoes are definitely in high gear, and I'm starting to stock pile them. I'm also starting to pick them a little early to help the plant ripen the rest, and letting them ripen on my counter while I eat the ones that are ready. If anyone has any great tomato recipes, I'd love to know. (Preferably nothing to do with canning, because I don't have the resources to this year. Freezing, however, isn't out of the question.)
Tomatoes, banana peppers, beans, and a strawberry.
I love wandering out to the garden and coming in with surprises. Like, my green and yellow bush beans that have just started fruiting, and my super production-oriented hot banana pepper plant. It's loaded with at least 12 or more right now and I've already picked at least 10! I can't wait to see what else comes over the next several weeks.
